Jordan Spieth is a well-known American professional golfer, and the only golfer other than Tiger Woods to have won the U.S. Junior Amateur multiple times. At age 19, Jordan Speith won his first PGA Tour event by defeating Zach Johnson and David Hearn in a five-hole playoff.
Spieth opened the 2013 PGA Tour season by missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in January, shooting a one over 145 through two rounds. In March, Spieth made three cuts, finishing tied for second at the Puerto Rico Open and tied for seventh at the Tampa Bay Championship. He notched another top-10 finish in April at the RBC Heritage, finishing tied for ninth. Spieth earned Special Temporary Member status in March, allowing him unlimited sponsor exemptions.
On July 14, Spieth won a three-way, sudden-death playoff on the fifth hole in the John Deere Classic against defending champion Zach Johnson and David Hearn. He became the fourth youngest PGA Tour winner and the first teenager since Ralph Guldahl won the Santa Monica Open in 1931. Spieth was granted full status as a PGA Tour member and became eligible for the FedEx Cup, entering in 11th place in the standings. The win also earned Spieth entry into the 2013 Open Championship, 2013 PGA Championship, and 2014 Masters Tournament.
